Lecture: Polymeric nanofibrous materials and their preparation and use

Responsible: RNDr. Petr Ryšánek, Ph.D.

Semester: Winter Semester, Compulsory elective course with 2 credits

Online – Lecture

Practical courses: 3

Condition: practical courses are compulsory

Registration via Opal: Link follows

Content:

The aim of this course is to familiarize students with the principles of spinning of polymeric and inorganic materials using direct and alternating current, with various types of experimental setups and types of devices for spinning using direct and alternating current, and with parameters that affect the properties of polymeric nanofibrous structures. Attention will also be paid to the technology of centrifugal spinning and its various variations (e.g. with the support of an electric field).

A significant part of the course will be devoted to the functionalization of nanofibrous structures using:

(1) chemical modifications (anchoring of molecules of various types of modifying substances) and (2) physical modifications (UV radiation, plasma modifications), or a combination of both procedures. The course will also include a practical part.

Lectures

  • Modification of nanofibrous materials
  • Introduction to nanofiber topic, the importance of nanofibrous structures
  • History of nanofiber production, principle of spinning techniques
  • DC spinning techniques
  • AC spinning, force spinning, melt spinning
  • Characterisation techniques

Practical teaching

Practical teaching will take place in blocks divided into:

  • Preparation of nanofibers using different conditions of electrospinning
  • Measurement of air and water permeability of prepared nanofibrous samples
  • Characterisation of prepared nanofibrous samples (SEM, digital microscopy, XPS)
