In der Woche vom 27.06. bis 01.07.2022 fand zum ersten Mal (und nach zweimaliger Verschiebung wegen der Corona-Pandemie) die PhD-Konferenz der Materialwissenschaftler aus Dresden und Ústí nad Labem statt, mit dem Thema „Biologisierung, Nanotechnologie und Simulation“. Der inhaltliche Fokus lag auf der systematischen Nutzbarmachung und Integration von biologischen Ressourcen, ihrer Biokomatibilität sowie Prozessen, Verfahren und Prinzipien in verschiedenen technischen Anwendungsfeldern. Diese Doktorandenkonferenz sollte den grenzüberschreitenden Wissens- und Erfahrungsaustausch zwischen Tschechien, konkret dem Usti-Bezirk und Deutschland, speziell Sachsen fördern. Doktorand:innen der Materialwissenschaft und verwandter Forschungsbereiche von der Technischen Universität Dresden, dem Fraunhofer-Institut IKTS, dem Leibniz-Institut IFW sowie der naturwissenschaftlichen und der Umweltfakultät der Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem trafen sich zu dieser fünftägigen Veranstaltung. Die Teilnehmer:innen tagten 3 Tage in Dresden im Feldschlössschen Stammhaus und 2 Tage in Tschechien im Hotel Ostrov mit Besuch in Ústí nad Labem, so dass jeder das Umfeld des Anderen kennen lernen konnte.
V týdnu od 27. 6. do 01. 07. 2022 se poprvé (po dvou odkladech z důvodu pandemie Corona) uskutečnila doktorandská conference na téma “Biologizace, nanotechnologie a simulace”. Obsahové zaměření bylo na systematické využívání a integraci biologických zdrojů, jejich biokompatibilitu i procesy, metody a principy v různých technických oblastech. Tato doktorandská konference měla za cíl podpořit přeshraniční výměnu znalostí a zkušeností mezi Českou republikou, konkrétně Ústeckým regionem, a Německem, konkrétně Saskem. Pětidenní akce se zúčastnili doktorandi z Technické univerzity v Drážďanech, Fraunhoferova institutu IKTS, Leibniz Institute IFW a také Přírodovědecké fakulty a Fakulty životního prostředí Univerzity Jana Evangelisty Purkyně v Ústí nad Labem. Akce byla rozdělena na 3 dny v Drážďanech ve Feldschlössschen Stammhaus a 2 dny v Čechách v hotelu Ostrov s návštěvou Ústí nad Labem, aby všichni navzájem poznali obě prostředí.
In the week from 27.06. to 01.07.2022 the PhD conference of material scientists from Dresden and Ústí nad Labem took place for the first time (and after two postponements due to the Corona pandemic), with the topic “Biologization, Nanotechnology and Simulation”. The content focus was on the systematic utilization and integration of biological resources, their biocompatibility as well as processes, methods and principles in various technical fields of application. This PhD conference was intended to promote cross-border exchange of knowledge and experience between the Czech Republic, specifically the Ústí district, and Germany, specifically Saxony. PhD students in materials science and related research fields from the Technical University of Dresden, the Fraunhofer Institute IKTS, the Leibniz Institute IFW as well as the Faculty of Natural Sciences and the Faculty of Environment of the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem met for this five-day event. The participants met for 3 days in Dresden in the Feldschlössschen Stammhaus and for 2 days in Czechia in the Hotel Ostrov with visit in Ústí nad Labem so that everyone could get to know each other’s environment.

Bei der Einführungsveranstaltung am Montag stellten sich die teilnehmenden Einrichtungen aus Dresden (TUD Fakultät Maschinenwesen, Professur für Biomaterialien mit der Forschungsgruppe Korrosion und Oberflächen, Fraunhofer-Institut für Keramische Technologien und Systeme IKTS Abteilung Bio- and Nanotechnologie) und aus Ústí nad Labem (UJEP Fakultät Naturwissenschaften, CENAB und Fakultät Umwelt) vor.
Ein wesentliches Element der Konferenz waren die Präsentationen zur aktuellen Forschung im Bereich Materialwissenschaft. Die teilnehmenden Doktorand:innen stellten ihre laufenden Forschungsarbeiten und bereits erzielten Ergebnisse jeweils an den Vormittagen vor fachkundigem Publikum vor. Es nahmen dabei auch erfahrene Forscher:innen aus Ústí n. L. und Dresden teil. Im Anschluss an die spannenden Präsentationen fanden fachliche Diskussionen und Gespräche zu Kooperationsmöglichkeiten statt.
Úvodem v pondělí představily svou činnost zúčastněné instituce z Drážďan (Fakulta strojního inženýrství TUD, Katedra biomateriálů s výzkumnou skupinou koroze povrchů, Fraunhoferův institut pro keramické technologie a systémy, Katedra bio- a nanotechnologií IKTS) a z Ústí nad Labem (Přírodovědecká fakulta UJEP, CENAB, Fakulta životního prostředí UJEP).
Hlavním prvkem konference byly prezentace o aktuálním výzkumu v oblasti materiálových věd. Zúčastnění doktorandi v dopoledních hodinách před odborným publikem prezentovali své dosavadní výzkumné práce a již dosažené výsledky. To vše za účasti zkušených vědců z Ústí nad Labem a Drážďan. Po poutavých prezentacích následovaly odborné diskuse a rozhovory o možnostech spolupráce.
At the introductory event on monday, the participating institutions from Dresden (TUD Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Chair of Biomaterials with the Research Group of Corrosion and Surfaces, Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS Department of Bio- and Nanotechnology) and from Ústí nad Labem (UJEP Faculty of Natural Sciences, CENAB and Faculty of Environment) introduced themselves.
An essential element of the conference were the presentations on current research in the field of materials science. The participating doctoral students presented their current research work and already achieved results in the mornings in front of an expert audience. Experienced researchers from Ústí n. L. and Dresden also took part. The exciting presentations were followed by professional discussions and talks on cooperation opportunities.
Neben dem spannenden wissenschaftlichen Austausch gab es an den Nachmittagen die Möglichkeit, verschiedene materialwissenschaftliche Forschungseinrichtungen und Labore in Dresden und Ústí nad Labem kennenzulernen. Besichtigt wurden das Max-Bergmann-Zentrum sowie das Fraunhofer IKTS in Dresden und die Labore der Fakultät Naturwissenschaften, des CENAB sowie der Fakultät Umwelt der UJEP. Die Besichtigungen gaben die Möglichkeit verschiedene wissenschaftliche Methoden und Prozesse genauer kennenzulernen und die Forschungsumgebung der teilnehmenden Doktorand:innen hautnah zu erleben.
Das Abendprogramm bot eine kulturelle Umrahmung, um nicht nur die fachliche Arbeit in der grenzüberschreitenden Region Tschechien – Deutschland besser kennenzulernen, sondern auch im lockeren Austausch persönliche Kontakte zu knüpfen. Zu den kulturellen Programmpunkten gehörten eine historische Campustour durch die TU Dresden und die Besichtigung der Farbstoffsammlung der TU Dresden, die eine der ältesten und umfangreichsten Sammlungen ihrer Art ist. Aktiv wurde es hingegen am Donnerstagabend mit einer Wanderung zu den Tyssaer Wänden (Tiské stěny).
Kromě zajímavých vědeckých témat akce nabídla po odpolednech možnost poznat různá výzkumná centra a laboratoře materiálové vědy v Drážďanech a Ústí nad Labem. Navštíveno bylo Centrum Maxe Bergmanna i Fraunhofer IKTS v Drážďanech a laboratoře Přírodovědecké fakulty, CENAB a Fakulty životního prostředí UJEP. Návštěvy umožnily poznat různé vědecké metody a procesy a zažít výzkumné prostředí zúčastněných institucí.
Večerní program nabídl příjemné prostředí nejen k lepšímu seznámení s odbornou prací kolegů v přeshraničním regionu Česká republika – Německo, ale také k navázání osobních kontaktů v rámci neformální výměny. Součástí kulturního programu byla prohlídka historického kampusu TU Dresden a návštěva sbírky barviv TU Dresden, která je jednou z nejstarších a nejrozsáhlejších sbírek svého druhu. Čtvrteční večer byl obohacen výšlapem do Tiských skal.
In addition to the exciting scientific exchange, the afternoons offered the opportunity to get to know various materials science research facilities and laboratories in Dresden and Ústí nad Labem. The Max Bergmann Centre as well as the Fraunhofer IKTS in Dresden and the laboratories of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, CENAB and the Faculty of Environment of the UJEP were visited. The visits gave the opportunity to get to know different scientific methods and processes and to experience the research environment of the participating PhD students.
The evening program offered a cultural setting not only to get better acquainted with the professional work in the cross-border region Czech Republic – Germany, but also to establish personal contacts in a casual exchange. The cultural program included a historical campus tour of the TU Dresden and a visit to the dye collection of the TU Dresden, which is one of the oldest and most extensive collections of its kind. On the other hand, things got active on thursday evening with a hike to the Tyssa Walls (Tiské stěny).
Alle Präsentationen wurden mit der Applikation Best Talk von allen Teilnehmer:innen der Konferenz bewertet, um die 3 besten Präsentationen zu ermitteln. Am Ende der Konferenz wurden die Preisträger gekürt und erhielten ein Präsent, zusammengestellt aus einem Objekt aus Dresden und einem Objekt aus Ústí n. L.
Všechny prezentace byly vyhodnoceny aplikací Best Talk a byly určeny 3 nejlepší prezentace. Na konci konference byli vybráni výherci, kteří obdrželi cenu.
All presentations were evaluated with the application Best Talk by all participants of the conference to determine the 3 best presentations. At the end of the conference the winners were chosen and received a gift, composed of an object from Dresden and an object from Ústí n. L.
Kreativ-Workshop / Kreativní dílna / Creative workshop
Am Montagnachmittag nahmen die Doktorand:innen an einem Impulsworkshop zum Thema „Get Connected! Networking for Scientists” teil. Dieser Kreativ-Workshop hatte das Ziel die Konferenzteilnehmer:innen untereinander zu vernetzen. Neben der Möglichkeit zu einem ersten persönlichen Austausch zwischen den Doktorand:innen wurden in angenehmer Atmosphäre verschiedene Kompetenzen, wie z.B. die Vorbereitung eines Elevator Pitches, vermittelt.
V pondělí odpoledne doktorandi zúčastnili workshopu pod názvem „Get Connecting! Networking for Scientists“. Cílem tohoto kreativního workshopu bylo navázání kontaktů mezi účastníky konference. Kromě možnosti navázání kontaktů mezi doktorandy probíhala v příjemné atmosféře take výuka dalších dovedností, například příprava sebeprezentace (“elevator pitch”).
On monday afternoon the PhD students participated in an impulse workshop on the topic “Get Connected! Networking for Scientists”. The aim of this creative workshop was networking with the conference participants. In addition to the opportunity for an initial personal exchange between the doctoral students, various skills, such as the preparation of an elevator pitch, were taught in a pleasant atmosphere.
Pausengespräche/ Konverzace během přestávky/ Conversations during the break
Neben den interessanten und sehr professionellen Präsentationen der Doktorand:innen fanden vor allem die Besichtigungen und gemeinsamen Abendveranstaltungen großen Anklang. Bei Kaffee, Tee und Snacks wurden auch die Pausen gern für Diskussionen und persönliche Gespräche genutzt.
Kromě zajímavých odborných prezentací doktorandů byly oblíbené zejména návštěvy a společné večerní akce. Za možnosti kávy, čaje a občerstvení byly využity přestávky také k diskusím a vzájemným rozhovorům.
In addition to the interesting and very professional presentations of the doctoral students, the visits and joint evening events were particularly popular. With coffee, tea and snacks, the breaks were also used for discussions and personal conversations.
Zum Abschluss der Konferenz präsentierten die Technologieagentur der Tschechischen Republik und der Wirtschafts- und Sozialrat der Region Ústí noch die strategischen Visionen zur Entwicklung der Region und Fördermöglichkeiten der Zusammenarbeit in konkreten gemeinsamen Forschungsprojekten.
Das Ziel der Doktorandenkonferenz wurde erreicht. Die Konferenz legte den Grundstein für zukünftige gemeinsame Forschungsprojekte und die engere Vernetzung von Fachkollegen beiderseits der Grenze. Vier tschechisch-deutsche Kooperationen zwischen Doktorand:innen und Fachexpert:innen wurden bereits initiiert und sollen in den nächsten Monaten aufgebaut werden. Außerdem wird es eine Dokumentation aller Präsentationen geben, die es auch Interessenten, die an der Konferenz nicht teilnehmen konnten, ermöglicht, einen Einblick in die laufenden Forschungsarbeiten in Dresden und Ústí n. L. zu erhalten.
V závěru konference představily své strategické vize rozvoje regionu a možnosti financování spolupráce na konkrétních společných výzkumných projektech Technologická agentura ČR a Hospodářská a sociální rada Ústeckého kraje.
Cíl doktorandské konference byl splněn. Konference dala základ pro budoucí společné výzkumné projekty a užší propojení odborných kolegů na obou stranách hranice. Již byly zahájeny čtyři česko-německé spolupráce mezi doktorandy a odborníky, které budou navázány v následujících měsících. Kromě toho bude k dispozici dokumentace všech prezentací, která umožní zájemcům, kteří se nemohli konference zúčastnit, nahlédnout do probíhajícího výzkumu v Drážďanech a Ústí nad Labem.
At the end of the conference, the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic and the Economic and Social Council of the Ústí Region presented their strategic visions for the development of the region and funding opportunities for cooperation in concrete joint research projects.
The goal of the doctoral conference was achieved. The conference laid the foundation for future joint research projects and closer networking of professional colleagues on both sides of the border. Four Czech-German collaborations between PhD students and experts have already been initiated and will be established in the coming months. In addition, there will be a documentation of all presentations, which will allow interested parties who could not attend the conference to get an insight into the ongoing research in Dresden and Ústí n. L.
