Commercial polymeric thin film membranes show poor water permeability. Nano-fiber membranes prepared by electrostatic spinning have a much higher porosity due to their unique interconnected structure of nanofibers. In addition, this technology enables to control the morphology of nanofibres, porosity and permeability by tuning of process parameters.
Chemical modification of nanofiber surfaces and spinning can be done simultaneously, i.e. in one step.
